Komatsukan Kofutei

One of the best onsen ryokans we’ve visited. We’ll return in a heartbeat 💓 what struck me about this particular ryokan is the genuineness of the people who work there. Everyone seems to genuinely want the guests to have a good time. And this is sometimes rather obvious when you interact with the people enough in their language. Everyone single person we encountered went above and beyond the expected Japanese hospitality (which is already much higher than that elsewhere). It just so happened that when we were there, it was the ryokans anniversary (if I understood it correctly?) and the lady with the gorgeous kimono (the owner 🤔 perhaps?) offered us complimentary crabs and abalone chawamushi 😭😭😭 could cry we were so grateful. Anyway, the view from the room and the onsen were both out of this world. You can see the Taiwan-Japan friendship bridge while soaking in the bath. I will definitely recommend this ryokan to anyone who’s visiting Matsushima 😊

Amazing stay at this ryokan in one of the Japanese style economy rooms. The staff were so welcoming, the views of the sunrise were outstanding, and the kaiseki dinners were some of our favorite meals in Japan. Location is great as well, easy walk to the town and pier for a ferry ride. Make sure to book the private onsen at check-in, it’s worth it for the outdoor aspect as the public ones are indoor (but still have lovely views). Nothing negative to say!

checked into komatsukan kofutei on 2.11.2023 they have lounge bar with free coffee, drinks, even complimentary macha with tea snacks 😎 outside the lounge there is a terrace with footbath & gorgeous views of Matsushima coast…that especially to see sunset and sunrise we had a suite room with a settee are and a separate like ante room & 2 toilets & 2 sinks ======= among the best kaiseki we had this trip Towada Prince French dinner most fine & stands out hachimantai had incredible array of dishes with best ingredients Jogakura serve the best grilled beef steak & best fine quality breakfast anyway this one stands with the best 1 snow crab with jelly ok average crab is sweet jelly could be tastier 2 sashimi good standard - maguro, tai, sawara all fresh & sweet..I don’t really like iwabi crunchy texture..& cooked prawn shouldn’t have a place in sashimi moriawase 3 the hoba leaf saikyoyaki abalone was excellent texture..the fish not great both cooking overdone & miso marinade not great 4 oyster gratin was excellent 👍🏻alaskan crab leg was good, sweet 5 lobster bouillabaisse well not a bouillabaisse just lobster with great tasting lobster broth ..there was fish, scallops, mussels..again lobster overcooked become like soup stock so preparation was surprisingly below par..the brother was great 👍🏻 6 sendai beef was excellent..very well sous vide & seared 7 kamameshi also not great 8 dessert was good - cheese cake, chocolate mousse, grape sorbet..nice dessert & coffee very shiok dinner ========= a fine, nice breakfast @ komatsukan kofutei 小松馆好风亭 served in 3-layer lacquered dining ware lovely breakfast overall komatsukan is the best of our 10 ryokan stays..location is unbeatable, room standard onsen standard, bar free drink & tea snack service, kaiseki dinner & breakfast all different class..
